If Lorenzo Romar were still coach of the Washington Huskies he would say that they needed to take their cool jackets off after a week praise following an Arizona sweep. Instead, Coach Hopkins took off his regular suit jacket 2 minutes into this one as his shouts did no good and Washington laid down and died in a 65-40 loss at Oregon to drop to 17-7 .The Huskies’ first offensive possession was a harbinger for the rest of the game as there was no urgency and Sam Timmins didn see time running out and couldn get up an attempt for a shot clock violation. Oregon started out bombing it from the outside as they made their first three 3-point attempts and took an early lead. But the Huskies kept things from getting completely out of control with a pair of 3 of their own, one by Crisp and one by Nowell and trailed 14-10 after 5 minutes. However, Oregon offense tailed off and the Huskies continued to be stagnant. Only two baskets were scored by both teams combined in the four minutes between the under 16 and the under 12 timeout with a Dominic Green corner 3 ending the Husky drought.Foul trouble plagued UW and robbed them of their rhythm. Both Sam Timmins and Noah Dickerson had 2 fouls in the first 14 minutes of the half and a lineup with Hameir Wright at center and Michael Carter III at point guard couldn get anything going Luke Wattenberg Jersey. However, a pair of drives ending in thunderous dunks by Matisse Thybulle and Jaylen Nowell gave Washington a 17-16 lead and gave the Dawgs a glimmer of hope before Oregon Troy Brown took over.He made a dazzling circus shot layup followed by a steal on a lazy swing pass by Jaylen Nowell that was dunked on the other end in transition. Brown had 16 points in the first half and did anything he wanted. Oregon continued to pull away and Washington trailed 28-21 at the break. The Huskies went to Matisse Thybulle early in the 2nd half to get out of their slump but he missed a wide open 3-pointer and a pair of layups that led to another sluggish start to the half. The Oregon Ducks gradually opened up a double digit lead and Washington never were able to cut into it substantially.Oregon freshman Kenny Wooten owned the second half as he finished with 7 blocks and had several highlight reel alley-oops on the other end. The Huskies kept trying to get it inside and kept coming away empty. That led to fast break opportunities for Oregon and they extended their lead over 20 with a few minutes left.Pick your offensive stat and the Huskies were atrocious. They shot 27.8 from the field. They shot 17.6 from 3-point range. They committed 16 turnovers on just 6 assists. Meanwhile, Oregon assisted on 19 of their 25 baskets and very few of their 11 turnovers were live ball that could lead to transition baskets.Noah Dickerson was the lone Husky in double figures, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds on the heels of an up and down week where he was named NCAA player of the week but lost his grandmother. Our condolences to the Dickerson family. Jaylen was the only other Husky with more than 5 points, finishing with 9.The Huskies will look to rebound when they travel to Corvallis to play Oregon State on Saturday night.Key ObservationsThe Washington offense was as bad as it been all season. The 3-point shot wasn going down and the Oregon length bothered every shot at the rim. Jaylen Nowell in particular had probably the worst game of his career https://www.huskiesfanstore.com/Jordan_Miller_Jersey. He drained a 3-pointer on his first attempt but went ice cold after that. The Oregon student section chanted air ball every time he touched it after he had two of them in the 1st half. Whether that affected him or he just had a bad game he never got going and finished with 4 15 shooting and 5 turnovers including several complete head scratchers.Nahziah Carter gave the Huskies a breath of life offensively on a few possessions when they tried to make a run in the 2nd half Camilo Eifler Jersey. He drove, pump faked to get Wooten in the air, then dished it to Dickerson who dunked it. Then on the next possession tried a ferocious dunk and got clubbed by Wooten to go to the line and sink 2 free throws. It was nice to see him aggressive but in control.Washington has been able to survive with just 2 bigs on the roster for most of the season. But both Timmins and Dickerson got into early foul trouble and the lineup with Hameir Wright at center, as it has done all season, struggled mightily. The quick spurt he showed in the non-conference has gone away and he looks like he doesn want to touch the ball. Washington might be able to get by without bigger contributions this season but they need him to rediscover his offensive skills eventually https://www.huskiesfanstore.com/Jordan_Chin_Jersey.We saw a brief Carlos Johnson sighting in the 1st half when Hop recognized the team needed a spark. He scored on his first possession in the game but then we saw why he doesn play as often. Carlos traveled the next time down the court which luckily didn get called and then immediately after tried to lead a 1v2 fast break and bowled over the Oregon defender for an offensive foul. He generally pretty reckless but he wants to prove to the coaches his worth and therefore won even look at a teammate much less pass it when he gets the ball. With one minute left in the game the beautiful human beings that comprise the Oregon student section started chanting F the Huskies. Stay classy Duck fans. One commenter noted on a previous article today that the Huskies had a chance to compete for a conference title, especially after Arizona lost as well tonight. It looked like the Huskies were thinking the same thing. Coach Hopkins is going to absolutely tear them a new one after tonight and they earned it. The team came out flat and it affected every aspect of the game. Oregon was getting deflections, second chances, and at the end of the game it was clear the Huskies gave up as they allowed dunk after dunk Coleman Shelton Jersey. Disappointing to see for the first time in almost three months since the Gonzaga game.
